The Children Take Power in the Final Episode of Game of Thrones Season 4 by Confession Girl

Remember where the heart is. Best Moments For The Non-Book Reader.

I found myself yelling at the TV this past Sunday when the screen turned black, that possibly couldn’t have been 66 minutes! The final episode of season 4, The Children ended with a few surprising twists and a couple road trips. The children of Thrones took the reins this week and here’s my favorite pairings.

Lets talk Game of Thrones season four finale.

A Throne Death

Let’s just start with the jugular shall we. Jaime finally does something about his brother’s imprisonment and gives Tyrion a one-way ticket to paradise, or at least somewhere far, far away from King’s Landing.

However, Tyrion has an epiphany and decides to pay a visit to his dear father, which is fitting since it was Father’s day. Instead he finds is Shae in Tywin’s bed! I knew she was bad from the moment Vary’s tried to ship her off and she refused to go.

When Tyrion realizes it’s Shae in Tywin’s bed he gets a look of hurt and murder. She sees it too and grabs for a weapon. Truthfully, after Shae’s betrayal there wasn’t going to be a happy ending for her. I believe Cersei would have killed her anyway. At least Tyrion gets his revenge, though it might have taken a piece of his soul with it.

The heartache passes and all that is left is anger. Tyrion focuses on a crossbow and drags it to the nearest loo. Tywin is in a compromised position, and for the-best-toilet-death ever, Tyrion unleashes his revenge on poor old daddy. Fiercely saying, “I am your son, I have always been your son,” and then releases the final arrow through Tywin’s heart.

Now that the big bad wolf is gone what will happen to Jaime and Cersei? Will she know that Jaime released Tyrion? She’s definitely a woman you don’t cross even if you are her brother-slash-lover.

But on a lighter note, at least Vary’s and Tyrion are traveling together to some far off land. Could they also be sailing to Braavos? That would be an interesting mash up, don’t you think?

Bran and Dany Connection

We didn’t get to see too much of Danaerys this week. However her story, at least in my mind, sets up a major piece that connects her to Westoros. Will her missing dragon travel to the north to meet a boy that can’t walk?

We finally see Bran and company reach their destination just to be attacked by some kind of boney-skeleton-zombies. Game of Thrones wiki call these guys Wights. A great fighting sequence begins, Bran takes over Hodor to fight off the Wights, but he’s just about to get slaughtered when a spark of fire bombs come out of nowhere. This is our first glimpse at the, “The Children,” a non-human race that inhabited Westros before the First Men arrived from Essos, and was thought they had been extinct by the White Walkers. The elvish looking girl saves Bran and Co. and takes them to see the three-eyed-raven, which turns out to be a really old guy with wise words for Bran, “you will never walk again, but you will fly.”

Anyone scream, how to train your dragon here? Okay, just me then! Can it be that Bran will be riding, or taking over a dragon sometime soon?

Arya’s Voyage To Braavos

Arya was a little perplexing this week. She’d been with The Hound learned from him and genuinely seemed to have grown a bond with him. But, that all changed when Brienne bumped into them and gave us one of the most grueling fight scenes we’ve seen on Thrones. The Hound does not believe Brienne could protect Ayra since all her relatives are dead. They both take out their swords…let’s just say both male and female fans felt those kicks to the groin!

Brienne gives one final blow and The Hound falls from a cliff where he suffers a compound break to his leg. Arya hides and waits until Brienne and Pod run in the opposite direction looking for her.

She slowly walks to The Hound and asks him if he’ll die. He replies, unless theirs a grand maester he’ll succumb to his winds. He asks her if she remembers where the heart is? Of course she does! But she only stares at The Hound instead. I think she’s having an inner battle whether she should give him the mercy he seeks, or to let him die a slowly painful death. Maybe he reassured her, by spitting out all the horrible things he did and should have done. She remembered that The Hound was on her list. She would neither kill him, or let him live. She left his fate for himself or someone else to decide.

If The Hound survives do you think he will ‘hound’ down Arya?

Arya leaves The Hound broken and decides to carry on north. She comes across a harbor with ships and begs to be taken north. The shippers are headed to Braavos instead. Arya takes out her iron coin, that Jaqen H’ghar gave her back in season two, and utters the words “valar morghulis” – all men must die. The man responds, “valar dohaeris” – all men must serve, and now Arya is on her way to Braavos.

I can’t wait to see how Braavos will affect Arya. Will she continue to walk that fine line of losing her soul, or will she gain it back again?

Stannis and Jon Snow

This was interesting mash up, but if you paid close attention to the hints dropped all season long we knew Stannis would head north towards The Wall.

Fascinating to see Stannis taking advice from Jon Snow since we know he’s been very unwilling to do so with anyone else. Is this the new Stannis for next season? I hope so, because this was the first time I actually liked him.

Did anyone else see the look Melisandre gave Jon Snow? B.B and I discussed this on Monday morning and she believes that Jon may have more noble blood running through his veins beside Stark blood. Who could be Jon Snow’s mother? Excellent question!

Best Quotes From “The Children”

“Of all the ways I’d kill you, poison would be the last” – Mance Rayder
“A disease doesn’t decide to kill you, but you still cut it out all the same.” – Cersei Lannister
“The dead can’t hear us boy” – Tormund Giantsbane
“You refuse to die. I respect that, even admire it.” – Tywin Lannister
“Valar Morghulis” – Ayra Stark
“Valar Dohaeris” – Braavosi Captain

What did you guys think of the Finale? Are you as depressed as I am that we have to wait until next year to see our favorite characters again? At least, I have the World Cup to keep my busy for a month.
